Overview
Buckswood is an independent boarding school for overseas
and local UK pupils aged 10- 19. Originally the school was situated
in Uckfield known as Buckswood Grange School but in 2000
re-located to the village of Guestling between the towns of Ashford and Hastings in East Sussex. Buckswood currently boards more than 350
students from nearly fifty different countries, plus 200 local day pupils.
Academically Buckswood offers GCSE and A Level programmes plus full EFL tuition for all
overseas students. Buckswood also offers the IB diploma. Music, drama and speech are very active
areas outside of the main academic studies.
Buckswood does not
recognise the concept of the average pupil; there is no box-ticking template to
be followed here, because every scholar will be treated differently, with an
education tailored to his or her own aptitude. Buckswood's small class sizes,
expert subject specialists and the uniquely inspiring environment, come
together to produce an educational experience unlike any other.
The school is set on a beautiful, safe campus
with a swimming pool, astro turf pitches, horse riding stables, indoor sports
hall and sports field. Buckswood excels at
unlocking hidden talents in all our students and believe in preparing them to
be citizens of the world with an emphasis on personal growth as well as
academic achievement. The latest Ofsted report in October 2011 assessed the
school good or outstanding in all categories
Buckswood is
unique in offering a year-round Football Academy on campus, running alongside
regular academic courses.

Location
Buckswood School is located just 10 minutes outside the busy seaside resort
of Hastings, famous as 'the birthplace of England' and the point at which the
Norman Conquerors landed in the 11th century. The town is located 24 mi (39 km) east of the
county town of Lewes and 53 mi (85 km) south east of London, and has an
estimated population of 86,900, which
makes it the 66th largest settlement in the United Kingdom. Central London is
just 90 minutes away by direct train, and the major entry points of Heathrow,
Gatwick, Stansted and Ashford are all within easy reach.
As with the rest of the British
Isles and Southern
England, Hastings experiences a maritime
climate with cool
summers and mild winters. In terms of the local climate, Hastings is on the
eastern edge of what is, on average, the sunniest part of the UK, the stretch
of coast from the Isle of Wight to the Hastings area.
Throughout the year many annual events take
place in Hastings, the largest of which being the May Day bank
holiday weekend, which
features a Jack-in-the-Green festival (revived since 1983),[35] and the culmination of the Maydayrun—tens of thousands
of motorcyclists having ridden the A21 to Hastings.
There are many parks and open spaces located
throughout the town, one of the most popular and largest being Alexandra Park opened in 1882 by the Prince and Princess of Wales. The park
contains gardens, open spaces, woods, a bandstand, tennis courts and a cafe.
Other open spaces include White Rock Gardens, West Marina Gardens, St Leonards
Gardens, Gensing Gardens, Summerfields Woods, Linton Gardens, Hollington woods,
Filsham Valley, Warrior Square, Castle Hill, St Helens Woods and Hastings Country Park.
