Southbourne School of English is a family run school that was established in 1966. It is located in a beautiful residential area of Bournemouth with a large demographic of young families and professionals. The attraction with the location is that it is very safe, clean and on a very good transport line. It is only a short walk from the local high street and 10 minutes to the beautiful beaches of Bournemouth which are some of the longest sand beaches in England.
The School has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and now offers first class facilities in a welcoming and caring environment. We have invested in all of our 22 classrooms with fitted top of the range interactive whiteboards. All of which are state-of-the-art design. At Southbourne School of English we set the standard for creating, delivering and managing lessons to the highest standard and this is reflected in our resources that we provide our students with. All rooms have air-conditioning and heating systems with comfortable, modern classroom furniture and our student cafeteria has been extended and can now seat 110 students. There is also an internet corner with 10 computers and we provide free WIFI throughout the school.
We have the capacity for 300 students in the winter months and 330 in the summer months. As well as being a member of English UK we are accredited by the British Council and are also a member of Quality English ensuring that our standards are high at all times not only across the level of academic service we provide but also the facilities and tuition.
Last year we were inspected by the ISI. Schools in this association are ranked amongst the best in the world and we exceeded all expectations and gained top marks in all 3 sections.

We make sure that all our students have a happy, safe home to return to after school. All our host families have been carefully selected by us and some have been working with us for years. Homestays are designed to give a family feel, and could be one or more adults with or without Children. We have a large selection of families to choose from and they have all been police checked.
We also have a designated welfare officer and an accommodation officer who visits the homes to guarantee that they are of a high satandard. We believe that choosing the right family for you is important as we want you to feel comfortable, happy and safe.
All our homestays are within walking distance of the school and adults aged 18+ are guaranteed single rooms all year round. By living with a host family, you’ll enjoy home comforts and learn as much as you can about the English way of life.
Having every opportunity to practice your English is important to us. We make sure that you aren’t in the same house as another student of the same nationality. You’ll learn much more by speaking in English at every opportunity. However, if you would like to share a room with your friend, or be in the same host family as a friend, let us know and we’ll arrange it.
Guest House and Hotels
Bournemouth has a wide range of small hotels and guesthouses (guesthouses are like small hotels, often family run, and offer great value for money). We inspect all of the guesthouses and hotels to make sure that they meet our standards of quality and comfort.
