Overview
The Institute of Education (IOE) is a public research university located in London, UK specialized in postgraduate study and research in the field of education, and a constituent college of the University of London. The IOE is generally recognized as one of the best institutions focusing on educational research and offering teacher training and Education studies (for example, it was accorded joint first place, alongside Oxford University, in the 2008 Research Assessment 'Education' subject rankings, according to both Times Higher Education and the Guardian). In 2013, the Institute of Education was also ranked 7th worldwide in the field of Education in the annual World University Rankings by Subject.
The IOE is the largest education research body in the United Kingdom, with over 700 research students in the doctoral school. It also has the largest portfolio of postgraduate programmes in education in the UK, with approximately 4,000 students taking Master's programmes, and a further 1,200 students on PGCE teacher-training courses.
At any one time the IOE hosts over 100 research projects funded by Research Councils, government departments and other agencies. The Institute publishes Educate~ The Journal of Doctoral Research in Education.

Location
Institute of Education is based in the centre of London by Russell Square. Close to Covent Garden, West End, Southbank and with easy access to the numerous museums, galleries, theatres, cinemas, shops, cafes and restaurants that are a short walk from main building. The London Underground station at Russell Square, which has a direct line to London Heathrow Airport, is five minutes from the main building.

Learning environment
IOE houses Europe's largest education library and archives. Other on-site facilities include wireless internet access; computer and study rooms; nursery; bookshop; cafes; media suite with audiovisual services; and well-equipped seminar rooms, workshops and lecture halls.
As well as their own student union with bar, shop, cafe and common room, IOE students have free membership of the nearby University of London Union, which offers access to a restaurant, bars, and gym and pool facilities.

Accommodation
IOE provides high-quality accommodation in a safe, secure and welcoming environment. The student support team can provide information on the IOE halls of residence, other halls of residence and private rented accommodation. All halls of residence are within about five minutes' walk of main building in Bedford Way and most rooms have wireless access to the internet.
IOE accommodation
All accommodation in IOE halls is self-catered. There are modern kitchen facilities and shelves, cupboards, fridge and freezer space is available for each student.
- John Adams Hall: The self-catering accommodation consists of 155 single and twin study rooms. Six rooms have been adapted for disabled students. Residents come from many countries, and share the hall's lively atmosphere and activities, which include an annual multicultural festival.
- Endsleigh Gardens: This hall accommodates 49 students in single and twin studios and single rooms. Some studios have self-contained facilities, including a kitchenette.
- Woburn Square: Research students are given preference in these self-contained double flats and suites, which accommodate 50 Institute students. Some flats can accommodate students with one child.
University of London intercollegiate halls of residence
Eight intercollegiate halls are open to all full-time students of the University of London. The IOE has an allocation with intercollegiate halls for housing undergraduate students.
