Overview
Keele Universityis a public research campus university about 2 miles (3 km) from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England and 5 miles (8 km) from the city of Stoke-on-Trent. It was the first new British university in the 20th century, founded in 1949 as an experimental college dedicated to a broad curriculum and interdisciplinary study, Keele is notable for pioneering the dual honours degree in Britain.
The university occupies a 620 acre (250 ha) rural campus close to the village of Keele and has a science park and a conference centre, making it the largest main campus university in the UK. The university's School of Medicine operates the clinical part of their courses from a separate campus at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, while the school of nursing and midwifery is based at the nearby clinical education centre.

Location
Keele is in North Straffordshire halfway between Manchester and Birmingham. The University is on a hill overlooking the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme (two miles from Keele) with Stoke-on-Trent (and its main shopping area Hanley) just a couple of miles further.
There is a thriving student life around the campus and a wide range of café-bars, restaurants and pubs in Newcastle and clubs in Hanley.
Theatre lovers will enjoy the New Vic in Newcastle and the Regent in Hanley, while the latest films are shown at the multi-screen cinema in Newcastle. The UK's biggest theme park, Alton Towers, is around 45 minutes from the University. The beautiful Peak District is only 20 miles away from Keele.
Keele's central location means it is easy to get anywhere in the country, with the M6 and rail links close at hand. Manchester and Birmingham are each an hour's drive away, while London is less than three hours by train.

Learning environment
The University continues to invest to improve the student experience and student learning environment. In the last 10 years alone the University has invested £115 million in its campus and infrastructure. The newly renovated library includes a wide range of digital resources and new study areas. Keele Campus Library to open for 24/7 throughout each semester from the start of the academic year 2012–13. Broadband internet access is available in study bedrooms and in the PC labs. A short term and long term laptop loan scheme is available. Students can borrow an up-to-date Dell Latitude Laptop for up to 3 hours or two weeks. Keele is a unique community in which people can work, study, and relax. The campus has a full range of facilities and services for all the community, including bars, eateries and retail outlets.
The campus also has a leisure centre with recently updated fitness suite, a post office, bank, nursery, GP and dentist. Keele University has an extensive sports fields, tennis courts and indoor sport facilities including a state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, climbing wall and courts for basketball, five-a-side football, badminton, squash, netball, korfball, karate and aerobics. Keele also has an art gallery and ceramic collection, and the University's arboretum boasts one of the largest collections of flowering cherry trees in the country.

Accommodation
During the time at the Keele University students can choose to either live in allocated student residential accommodation or arrange your own private accommodation.
Halls of Residence
There are five Halls of Residence at Keele, with over 3,000 bed spaces available, each with its own character and with different room types to suit a varietyof budgets, ranging from single rooms sharing bathrooms and kitchens, to rooms with en-suite facilities.
- Hawthorns Hall: It is a vibrant and energetic place to live providing rooms for over 600 students. The Hall is set in private landscaped gardens at the heart of Keele village which is a 10-minute walk from the centre of campus. It's situated near to the Keele Management Centre which has a well-stocked grocery shop, restaurant and Templar Bar. There is a mix of catered and self-catering options.
- Barnes Hall: It is located close to the Sports Centre, and is a very exciting and green place to live. If you want to share your accommodation with friends, Barnes apartments are ideal. All blocks are self-catering.
- Holly Cross and The Oaks Hall: It provides a very high standard of accommodation that caters for over 400 students. The residences are close to the centre of campus with all the facilities of the university and the Students' Union within a few minutes' walk.
- Horwood Hall: It is one of the biggest Halls of Residence on campus providing single study bedrooms for approximately 750 students, together with a launderette and student bar. It is set between woodland and Keele's lakes making it a great place to relax. All rooms are self-catering.
- Lindsay Hall: It is at the south of the campus with views across the countryside. It provides a selection of spacious rooms for over 500 students and is situated just a few minutes' walk from the centre of campus. All rooms are self-catering.
